The aim of this project was to give a contemporary transformation to a piece of media. I transformed Lord of the Flies, creating an interactive installation that represents the crumbling society of the book.
The installation asks people to take part in this destruction. Users are given free reign over a cardboard city. Like children, we can imagine the boxes to be whatever we want them to be; whilst simultaneously being able to decide whether to let them stay as structures or to destroy them (consciously or not).
The boxes act as both a microcosm of the island setting in the original book; but also as a statement on contemporary life itself. Do we allow these temporary structures stay in place, or do we give into 'temptation' and bring them crashing to the ground?
